This Celebrity Just Set an Instagram World Record
Most of us with Instagram profiles have seen our follower count gradually increase over time. Those with business accounts may see a little bit more follower action, but the average casual account probably won’t have too many more than 1,000 followers at the most. Things are much different at the top, however, as celebrity and former ‘Friends’ actress Jennifer Aniston can attest.
Aniston, as most celebrities have at this point, joined Instagram a few days ago. She most likely planned on joining to show fans what she’s up to these days and to give some insight into the life of a famous actress—not to set a world record. Aniston unintentionally broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest Instagram account to reach 1 million followers, which was previously held by the Instagram account of Prince Harry and Megan Markle. The Royal Sussex account garnered 1 million followers in five hours and 45 minutes, while Aniston only needed five hours and 16 minutes to achieve the same feat.
In just 48 hours, Aniston’s account was up to nearly 12 million followers, with her first post racking up 12.3 million likes in the same amount of time. Funnily enough, Aniston found herself breaking more than just a world record. The sudden influx of followers and interactions on her posts may have temporarily crashed Instagram, as some fans found themselves unable to follow Aniston or like any of her posts for a short amount of time.
Aniston’s welcome to Instagram reveals a lot more than just how quickly she was able to break a world record. The speed in which millions of fans followed her account and liked her first posts shows how vital Instagram is for celebrities, influencers or even big businesses with large followings. Instagram’s unique use of photo-sharing allows these figures and companies to give a much more intimate and personal look into their lives that fans and consumers would not be able to get through platforms like Twitter or Facebook. Instagram is not ‘the new kid on the block’ anymore, and it should be recognized as a vital part to any celebrity or business’s social media campaign.
