The Dark Side of the Moon: How to Enable Facebook’s Hidden ‘Dark Mode’
Facebook Messenger is getting dark! No, not as dark as Momo but dark enough where this secret setting called “Dark Mode” can only be unlocked through the moon emoji. That’s right, we’re talking about the “dark side of the moon.”
What is Dark Mode?
Facebook’s iconic blue and white interface isn’t for everyone, and while many apps give users the ability to change their modes to black or another “personalized” color, Facebook didn’t give us a choice (until now). The difference between Facebook Messenger’s Dark Mode and any other “black” interface you’ve seen is that Facebook’s black interface is truly black, not the dark gray that’s become a popular knock off of black.
There’s another dark secret roaming around the world wide web, too. iOS 13 is planning to release a system-wide Dark Mode, which means we can expect more apps to go in this dark direction come September.
How Do I Enable Facebook Messenger’s Dark Mode?
- Start a chat thread and send the moon emoji.
- Click the moon emoji in the thread, read the popup message “You Found Dark Mode!” and cheer silently to yourself.
- Go into your Facebook Messenger settings and switch the toggle to enable Dark Mode.
