Socialocca's illustrated rainforest island gives every app a home you can explore

Socialocca today invited visitors to explore the Socialocca Island, an illustrated rainforest diorama at socialocca.com/world where every one of its apps has a home.
Software catalogs tend to look the same: a grid of icons and a search box. Socialocca wanted finding its tools to feel more like discovering a place. On the island, each app sits somewhere that fits it, among mountains, waterfalls, docks, and workshops.
"I wanted people to wander around and find something useful, the way you'd explore a new town," said Ryan K. Hertel, founder of Socialocca. "It turns a list of apps into a little world."
What visitors can do
- Explore six areas: The Peaks, Volcano Coast, Cliffside Falls, The Docks, The Harbor, and The Hideaway
- Take the guided tour from app to app
- Find apps by need, such as branding, websites, or marketing
- Try playful demos of apps including Shapeshifter, Inkaloo, and Howler
- Ask the Toucan, the studio's mascot, to search the site
The characters
The island's animals are the faces of Socialocca's apps: the Toucan, Blu the butterfly, Shapeshifter the chameleon, Howler the monkey, and Inkaloo the octopus. They are original illustrations by founder Ryan K. Hertel, and they also star in Socialocca's free children's storybook, Floating Strength. Socialocca's digital-ethics page discloses which parts of the island's art are AI-assisted.
