No overlays, no inflated claims: Socialocca publishes a plain-spoken accessibility statement

The studio says its site is "partially conformant" with WCAG 2.1 AA, lists the gaps it knows about, and fixes the code instead of adding a widget.

    SCRANTON, Pa., Nov. 4, 2026

Socialocca today highlighted its accessibility statement, which takes an unusually direct approach: it says exactly how accessible the site is, and isn't.

Many websites install an "accessibility overlay," a widget that promises to make a site compliant with one line of code. Organizations representing blind users have advised against these products, and they don't make a site conformant. Socialocca doesn't use one.

"It would be easy to put a badge on the site and call it accessible," said Ryan K. Hertel, founder of Socialocca. "I'd rather tell people the truth and keep fixing the real problems."

    The standard

Socialocca targets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, the benchmark referenced in practice by the Americans with Disabilities Act, by Section 508, and by the European Accessibility Act.

    The honest part

The statement says the site is "partially conformant": most of the standard is met, and some parts are not yet. Rather than claim otherwise, it lists the specific gaps the team knows about.

What it does instead of an overlay

    • Fixes the underlying code
    • Runs automated accessibility checks on every change
    • Provides a "skip to main content" link and a clear page structure
    • Replies to reported barriers within five business days

    Availability

The full statement is at socialocca.com/accessibility, where anyone can report a barrier.
