    LinkedIn

For services, B2B and careers: useful posts that lead to real conversations.

7 min readBy Ryan Hertel (heyitskenton), Socialocca2027 edition · reviewed October 2026

If you sell a service, work with businesses, or want clients, collaborators or a better job, LinkedIn is worth more than its reputation suggests. Its audience is small compared with TikTok or Instagram, but it's full of people with budgets, decisions to make, and a reason to hire someone. A few hundred of the right connections can matter more than a hundred thousand followers anywhere else.

    How the feed works now

LinkedIn rebuilt its feed in March 2026 around a new AI ranking system. It looks at your profile and what you engage with: long reads, likes, comments, shares and skips. New posts get picked up within minutes, and LinkedIn said the goal is to reduce repetitive, click-driven posts and show newer posts more often[1]. LinkedIn has long said it may choose not to widely promote engagement bait[2].

In practice: post things people actually stop and read, and that start real conversations in the comments.

    What tends to work

    Do

    • Lessons from real projects, with specifics
    • Behind-the-scenes of how you work and think
    • Short videos explaining one useful idea
    • Replying to every comment, and commenting on others' posts
    • Celebrating clients and collaborators (with permission)

    Skip

    • Engagement bait ("Agree?", "Comment YES")
    • Copy-paste motivational quotes
    • Constant sales pitches
    • Long posts that say nothing in particular
    • AI-written posts in a voice that isn't yours
    A freelancer using LinkedIn wellExample

A freelance bookkeeper posts twice a week: one short lesson ("three receipts small businesses always lose") and one behind-the-scenes note about a project. She replies to every comment and leaves useful comments on posts by local business owners. Most of her new clients now message her directly after reading her posts for a few months.

Tools for freelancers and small businesses

    • A Service page lets freelancers and small businesses list what they offer for free. Anyone can message you or request a proposal, and you can invite past clients to leave reviews[4].
    • A Company Page for your business, alongside your personal profile. People connect with people, so your personal posts usually reach further.
    • Newsletters let followers subscribe to your longer writing.
    • LinkedIn Live is open to accounts with more than 150 followers or connections that are at least 30 days old and in good standing[5].

In October 2026 LinkedIn added a creator dashboard, began testing ad revenue for some US creators' videos, and launched paid one-on-one "Advice Sessions" for some US members[3]. For most people, though, LinkedIn's real payoff is clients, partnerships and opportunities, not platform payouts.

    AI on LinkedIn

Images and videos with Content Credentials show an icon people can click to see how they were made, though LinkedIn says it can't yet identify all AI-generated content[6]. On a platform where people hire you for your thinking, posts that sound generic or AI-written cost you more than anywhere else.
