    Threads

Conversation-first posting, and how it connects to your Instagram audience.

6 min readBy Ryan Hertel (heyitskenton), Socialocca2027 edition · reviewed October 2026

Threads is Meta's text-first app, built around conversation. It's grown fast: Meta announced 500 million monthly users in June 2026[1]. For creators who like to talk, share opinions, answer questions and joke around, it's one of the easiest places to build relationships, because replying to people is the main activity, not an afterthought.

    How it works

Your feed mixes accounts you follow with posts Threads thinks you'll like. People can now steer it themselves with "Your Algo," asking privately for more or less of a topic for a few days at a time[1]. Posts can carry a topic tag, and Threads Communities, launched in October 2025 and out of beta since June 2026, gather people around shared interests like books, sports or design[2][1].

    What tends to work

    Do

    • Short opinions, questions and observations in your own voice
    • Replying to others in your niche, generously
    • Joining the Communities that match your topic
    • Behind-the-scenes thoughts while you work
    • Asking your followers real questions, and answering them

    Skip

    • Copy-pasting the same post from X or LinkedIn without adjusting it
    • Only posting links to your other platforms
    • Rage-bait and pile-ons
    • Posting and leaving without reading replies

    Features worth knowing

    • Communities, with their own feeds and live chats for real-time conversation[2][3].
    • Direct messages, launched in July 2025[4].
    • Topic tags to put a post in front of people interested in that subject.
    • Your Instagram connection: your Threads profile builds on your Instagram account, so the two can support each other.

    Earning on Threads

Threads doesn't have a broad creator payout program right now; ads began reaching users in every market in early 2026[5], but that's revenue for Meta, not creators. Treat Threads as a place to build relationships and point people to your offers, not as a direct income source.

    AI on Threads

Meta's "AI info" labels and disclosure rules apply on Threads as on Facebook and Instagram[6]. In a conversation-first app, your own voice matters more than anywhere: AI-written replies are easy to spot and quick to lose trust.
